Yes, you see it right! In this blog, we're going to show you how to grow moss and making moss ball on river stones with sponge bath net.

This method is not new and has been used by many professional aquascapers. Some might already know about it, so if anything you'd like to add on this blog, feel free to comment so we can help out others.

Materials:

Sponge Bath Net, or Fish Net

River Stones

Moss

Cotton Thread, or Fishing Line, or Rubber Bands...

Sponge Bath Net - There's many color of the Sponge Bath Net, we recommend to use black or green because it will match the color of the moss. But normally when the moss grow out, it will cover it. Fish Net can also be used if it's on hand, but sponge bath net is cheap and can be found everywhere at Wal Mart or Amazon. Here is a link to one:

River Stones - the reason we use river stones because of the smooth surface that it will damage the net during the process. River Stone also comes in many sizes and round. Look more natural in the aquarium.

Moss - in our experience, this will work with any kind of freshwater moss: Peacock moss, Xmas moss, Mini Pellia, Flame moss, Minitaiwan moss, Java moss, Taiwan moss, Fissidens moss...In this blog, we're using Fissidens Fox as an example.

Here it begins:

Pick out some stones and cut the sponge bath net to the size of each stone. Make sure the net is big enough to cover the whole stone as well as leave some out for tying. Get the moss ready.

Then spread out the moss evenly on the stones. It does not have to be thick, just enough to cover the whole top surface of the stones.

Now put the net on, and stretch it out so the holes is big enough for moss to grow through. Finishing by tying with fishing line, cotton thread or even rubber bands.

Finish products:

Now you can put them in the aquarium, and watch them grow. it does not take long to cover.

Hope it helps!
